What is the PSAT/NMSQT?

The PSAT/NMSQT is taken by high school students in the fall, usually in 10th or 11th grade. It has the same two sections as the SAT, Reading and Writing, and Math, and is scored from 320 to 1520. In 11th grade it is the qualifying test for the National Merit Scholarship Program.

Who is PSAT prep for?

10th and 11th graders who want a strong result, students aiming for National Merit recognition, and anyone who wants a head start on the SAT.

What we cover

  • Reading and Writing: comprehension, vocabulary in context and grammar
  • Math: algebra, advanced math, problem-solving and data analysis
  • The digital, adaptive format and pacing
  • Practice tests to track progress

How PSAT prep works at Success Tutoring

Starting from where your child is, the sessions build the skills the PSAT measures, with timed practice as the test approaches. Because the PSAT mirrors the SAT, the same preparation pays off again later.

Why choose Success Tutoring?

Skills first. Stronger reading and math skills lift the score and help in class.

Targeted practice. Tutors focus on the question types your student finds hardest.

Ready for the SAT. The same skills carry straight over.

Questions about PSAT/NMSQT preparation? Here are the ones families ask most. For anything else, your local centre is happy to help.

Schools offer the PSAT/NMSQT in the fall. Students usually take it in 10th grade for practice and in 11th grade for National Merit eligibility. Your student’s school sets the date.

In 11th grade, PSAT/NMSQT results are used to identify National Merit Scholarship Program participants. The highest-scoring students in each state are recognized, and some go on to compete for scholarships.

Yes. The PSAT has the same sections and question types as the SAT, so preparation for one builds directly towards the other.

No preparation can guarantee a particular score or National Merit recognition, and we will never promise one. What we can do is build the skills the PSAT assesses and help your child walk in calm, prepared and able to show what they know.

We meet senior students where they are. Rather than building a separate personalised program, our tutors work with your child on their own school subjects, resources and upcoming assessments in tutor-led sessions, targeting where they are losing marks and building confidence for the exams.

Membership is billed weekly with no lock-in contracts. You can cancel with just 2 weeks notice and pause at any time.
